A page in the history of cinema is turning.

In an interview with a Spanish newspaper, Woody Allen announced that he was preparing to shoot his fiftieth film, before finally bowing out to devote himself to literature.

The filmmaker's latest film, "Rifkin's Festival", released after the MeToo wave and the sexual assault of his daughter, was shunned by the public and critics.

End clap for Woody Allen.

In an interview with the Catalan newspaper

La Vanguardia

, the director announced his retirement from directing after his next film, which will be made in France.

He now intends to devote himself to writing.

"My goal is to stop making films and concentrate on writing. At the moment, I'm thinking more of a novel", indicates Woody Allen, who does not plan to write a sequel to his autobiography.

"I don't have as much fun making a film anymore"

In an interview granted to Alec Baldwin last June, the filmmaker had expressed his desire to stop the cinema.

"I'm probably going to do this extra film but a lot of the enthusiasm has evaporated," he said.

"I don't have as much fun making a movie and having it shown on the big screen anymore," he added, referring to the changes in the movie industry with the arrival of streaming.

"I'll do another one and then I'll see how I feel".

A last film shot in Paris

His latest film, entitled

Wasp 22,

will be shot in France, in Paris.

Woody Allen announced at the beginning of July that he would be back in the capital for a "lovely and poisonous thriller", in the same vein as one of his greatest hits, "Match Point".

The feature film, his fiftieth, will be shot in French and with local actors.

If the casting is for the moment kept secret, rumors claim that Isabelle Huppert would be part of the distribution.

Woody Allen shot several films in France, including the unforgettable

Midnight in Paris

Since the advent of the MeToo movement and the accusations of sexual assault of his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow, Woody Allen has only released one film,

Rifkin's Festival

, which was shunned by critics and the public.

In France, the feature film only made 89,000 admissions, the worst score for the filmmaker in France.
