Despite the attempts of its leadership to hide it,

the PSOE is today a disunited party

.

And it is becoming more and more difficult for Ferraz to ensure that the internal malaise does not surface, as the interview with Emiliano García-Page that we published in these pages and the reactions it provoked proved yesterday.

The reason for this inability to contain criticism is simple.

Sánchez's management was not punished in the polls for the absence of a solid alternative, but since Feijóo has settled down c

As opposition leader the reality is different.

And now that a course marked by the municipal and regional elections is starting, there are many candidates who know that they must disassociate themselves from the president because otherwise it will affect them negatively.

Several speak privately;

Page has simply been the first to do so in public.

In a context of silence and secrecy in the ranks of the PSOE, his words have fallen like a slab and are very revealing of the false unity that the party insists on displaying.

Without hesitation, Page denounces "the bad companies of the Government", referring to his allies in the Executive and in Congress, and speaks of the "rare environment", of the "broken commitments", of the fights in the coalition and that «Things are not being done well with the language» in Catalonia.

He also criticizes the harshness against Feijóo and, as a finishing touch, points out: "What I know is that there can be no other October 1, 2016", alluding to Sánchez's forced resignation that day.

The unusual thing is that after one of the territorial barons with the greatest weight and electoral capital of the PSOE has presented

such an amendment against the dome

, the answer came in the form of sweeping it under the rug.

"The party is strong and united," spokeswoman Pilar Alegría was able to declare yesterday.

And, after disavowing Page, she made it clear that there would be no further official response to her words.

As much as Ferraz insists on projecting an image of solidity, the current PSOE is a party where internal confrontation -which differs from healthy debate- has not been overcome.

The origin is in the instant to which Page alluded.

The return of Sánchez after his dismissal made it impossible for a new stage to begin without the shadow of the discrepancies that had split the PSOE in two.

The result was a fracture, a huge internal tear whose consequences still drag

.

I wish the PSOE was that united and strong party, consistent with its founding values and with a State agenda agreed with those who are committed to constitutional stability and not with those who seek to overthrow it.

All this would be desirable to contribute to the necessary governance of the country.

However, due to its own actions, the PSOE is today a party with more and more breaks.

It is logical that Sánchez will have an answer again

, and a symptom that there are still socialists who represent ideological moderation, responsibility in safeguarding constitutional harmony and commitment to a shared idea of the nation.

Now they must speak.
