What habits have changed in more than a year of "double reduction"?

More than 90% of off-campus training institutions in national disciplines have reduced after-school services on campus to basically achieve full coverage

On July 24, 2021, the General Office of the CPC Central Committee jointly issued the "Double Reduction Opinions" to effectively reduce the burden of excessive homework and off-campus training for students in compulsory education.

In the following year, the number of off-campus training institutions for disciplines has been greatly reduced. How do relevant practitioners choose at the crossroads of their careers?

Schools around the world are focusing on homework management, after-school services, classroom teaching, etc. to continuously improve quality and efficiency. How do teachers in public schools respond?

In this regard, reporters from Beijing Youth Daily conducted various visits.

The former teacher and training teacher is still a "baby mom"

In 2019, 23-year-old Jiang Jun joined a teaching and training institution as a language teacher.

In May of this year, he decided to switch careers to sell insurance.

His clientele hasn't changed much, he said.

I used to be a teacher, and my clients were mainly mothers.

"Now, it is Bao's mother who is in charge of insurance for family members and the financial power of the family." Now he is still in contact with the children. "There were students who participated in the speech contest two days ago, and they asked me to help read the manuscript."

Walking down from the three-foot podium, Jiang Jun didn't feel that there was any gap.

In insurance companies, there are also a lot of daily trainings. If you do well, you can share them as a lecturer.

Jiang Jun said that he has to maintain the mentality he had when he first graduated. It doesn't matter if he earns more or less, but he must have a lot of energy in his body.

Enrolling in public school 'no longer feels like a sales'

In order to retain new customers faster, the agency no longer even writes about the idea of solving the problem, but directly gives the title party "You don't need to understand, you can do this problem correctly". For this kind of quick success, Mr. Guo Helplessly said, "feel like a salesman."

Instead of passively waiting for fate, it is better to actively seek change.

Last year, Xiao Guo resigned from the education and training institution.

Through the application, he became a Chinese teacher in a public high school.

Mr. Guo said that the biggest change is that the length of a class has changed from 120 minutes to 40 minutes.

Standing on the podium, the first thing he should do is to shorten his lecture time.

"I no longer need to curry favor with students and keep them from continuing classes."

The more essential difference is the difference in teaching methods and educational concepts.

The school podium is no longer a stage for the teacher's personal presentation.

"The Chinese class in the school should leave the stage to the students and inspire them to think."

"In the first two months, I tried my best to restrain my desire to speak in class and think about how to ask students questions." Mr. Guo said that this year of double reduction made him re-understand the "sense of achievement". Institutions, teachers enjoy the expression of their own personalities and the expressions of students’ realization. But now, teachers enjoy the students standing up and expressing themselves to their heart’s content.”

Teachers in lower grades of primary school: "We must work hard on the curriculum"

After this year, teacher Qi Hui from the first branch of the eleventh school admitted that she was used to the changes since the double reduction policy.

For her, the biggest change is that the school's dismissal time has been delayed. It used to be 3:30, but now it will be extended to 5:10. This nearly two hours is the school's delayed service. When the children participate in activities very happy.

In terms of teaching content, the new curriculum standard after the double reduction has new requirements.

Teacher Qi introduced that the new curriculum standard is no longer limited to books, but is presented in the form of task groups. Several tasks are set in a semester, and several small tasks are set under each task.

For the first grade, teachers pay more attention to the cultivation of students' study habits, behavior habits, reading habits and so on.

In addition, interdisciplinary integration is also required, and courses such as language, mathematics, labor, and physical education must be combined.

"For example, the first month's task is to train habits, and the second month is autumn. Combined with the autumn climate, science, Chinese, and math classes are all related."

Mr. Qi believes that the new curriculum standards for primary schools are only weakening the rigid requirements for grades, but the requirements for learning ability have not decreased but increased.

The new curriculum standard requires improving quality and efficiency, and teachers must work hard on the curriculum.

Teacher Qi said that they have been doing closed seminars since the summer vacation, carefully studying the need to divide the teaching of the first grade into several task groups, and finally specifying which part of a task can be completed in each class hour, and how to do it to achieve the effect.

After school starts, teachers also hold weekly seminars to adjust teaching arrangements.

Although the workload of teachers has increased after the double reduction policy, there are many benefits.

For example, the school can carry out many activities during the delayed service in the lower grades, and the students in the middle and upper grades can finish their homework in the school, which also reduces the burden on many parents.

Teacher Qi also said that the overall quality of the students' parents is relatively high, they attach great importance to education, and they are very cooperative with the school's work.

Senior Class Teacher: Responsibilities Are Much Greater Than In the Past

The teachers of the graduating class have different understandings of the double reduction policy, and they feel that their responsibilities are obviously much greater than in the past.

Mr. Huo is a history teacher. He was the head teacher of the graduating class last year, and this year he is the grade leader of the third grade.

Get up at 6:30 every morning to wash and eat, and go to school at 7:30 to start work.

After the students arrive at school, they first read before class, and then begin to prepare for class.

At noon, the head teacher watches the class, and other teachers can answer questions for the students.

After class in the afternoon, after-school service starts at 4:30.

The after-school service of Fengtai School of the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China breaks class boundaries and is classified by subject, and has designed diversified and personalized after-school service content for students; students can choose subjects that they are interested in or relatively weak to participate in the after-school service period tutoring or interest training courses.

After 5:30, Mr. Huo will take the students to the playground to exercise for half an hour. The school attaches great importance to physical exercise.

During the holiday, the physical education teacher also designed a detailed exercise program for the students, and the students can exercise every day according to the program.

At 6 o'clock, boarding students can go to the cafeteria to eat, while day students can go home.

The school also provides evening self-study classrooms for day students who cannot go home in time after school. During the evening self-study period, students can make an appointment with the teacher to answer questions. In many cases, teachers sacrifice their rest time to answer questions patiently and meticulously for the children. Students' after-school learning is escorted and helps students grow up better.

One year after the implementation of the double reduction policy, Mr. Huo's biggest impression is that the homework after school has changed, and the requirements for teachers are stricter.

Now every school has a homework announcement system. Teachers can only have homework if they have a class, and they cannot leave homework without a class.

The assignment of each subject is limited to about 20 minutes, which is a test of the pertinence of the assignment design.

Under the double reduction policy, the form and content of classes are more diversified, and students' participation in learning is emphasized.

Mr. Huo said that in their grades, activities such as English calligraphy competition, English 100-word competition, and English dubbing were carried out, using interesting methods to stimulate students' enthusiasm for participating in learning.

For example, chemistry teachers let students make their own functional salt and so on.

Under the careful guidance of the teacher, the students obtained crude salt from seawater by hands-on experiments, purified sodium chloride from the crude salt, and made functional salt, which not only learned the relevant subject knowledge, but also enhanced the students' practical ability.

At the same time, the students also prepared some materials by themselves to make multi-functional salt, red wine salt, rose salt, etc., to experience the transformation from salt in nature to table salt on the table.

"Now the school provides a wealth of courses, so that students can go out of the classroom, go offline, go to the playground to play more activities, and participate in some art festivals. Respect children's nature and allow students to develop in an all-round way."

Football youth coach: "Children are more motivated to come to class"

Teacher Jiang of an art education institution said that the double reduction policy is indeed a good thing for off-campus institutions in the arts, sports and arts.

Before the double-cut policy was introduced, the institution's Shunyi campus had only eight art classes during the week and five classes a day on weekends, she said.

But after the double-cut policy was stabilized, the children had more time for off-campus art classes, and mid-week classes increased.

However, although children's class time has increased significantly, the number of new students signing up has only increased slightly. This is mainly because schools have opened after-school delay services, and schools will also open art classes and music classes. Most students have Choose to attend classes at school.

Coach Yao Yao, Dean of the Youth Training Academy of Changying Football Club, has been training football for 12 years.

After the introduction of the double reduction policy, although the football youth training did not appear to be overwhelmed, the enthusiasm of the children to come to class has increased.

Now Changying Football Club's kindergarten and first- and second-grade children can train three days a week, focusing on the time period from 5:00 to 7:00 in the evening, and sometimes there is even a situation of rushing for places.

"We have hundreds of children here, 50% of them are in kindergarten, 30% in first, second, and third grades, 20% in fourth, fifth, and sixth grades, and none in middle and high school. already."

Teacher Mao of Yixing Basketball Club also said that the fourth grade is a watershed. From the third and fourth grades, there are after-school homework, and in the fifth and sixth grades, the problem of further education is involved. Parents do not want their children to put more energy on it. in cultural activities.

However, with the reform of the physical education entrance examination, more and more parents now realize the importance of sports for the growth of children, and more children will actively participate in physical exercise.
