The rocky promontory will certainly be packed with people on November 6 for the start of the Route du Rhum.

In Cancale, the Pointe du Grouin is used to these crowds since it welcomes around 600,000 visitors each year, making it the second most visited natural site in Brittany behind the Pointe du Raz.

However, the reception of these tourists leaves a little to be desired.

This is the observation drawn up by the elected officials of the department who believe that visitors do not take advantage of the places long enough.

"People stay on average less than half an hour, enough time to walk around a bit and take a few photos," said Marc Hervé, departmental councilor in charge of sensitive natural areas, last year.

Parking for motorhomes

To extend the visit, a complete redevelopment of the site was recorded for an amount of 4.5 million euros.

Started on Thursday, the work should continue until the fall of 2024 with breaks during each summer period.

Parking, which will remain free unlike other natural sites, will thus be completely reorganized.

The small car park located at the foot of the semaphore will be removed while the main car park located at the entrance to the site will be moved a little further south.

A parking lot for motorhomes will also come out of the ground to avoid anarchic parking as well as a space for cyclists.

Finally, the project aims to secure the site and restore it, its flora is often trampled by visitors.
