, his new film, Steven Spielberg signs his first truly autobiographical work in which he looks back on his childhood and adolescence.

And many saw it as a testament film and a sign that the 75-year-old filmmaker was about to retire.

But rest assured, the director is far from having worn out his last film!

“It's not a way of saying that I'm going to retire and that's my swan song.

Don't listen to what they say about it, ”he assured while presenting his work at the Toronto International Film Festival.

A therapeutic process

In fact, Steven Spielberg had this project in mind for more than ten years.

“Tony and I started talking about this possibility when we were doing

Lincoln

(2012) together,” he continued, referring to his writing partner Tony Kushner.

“Tony acted as a bit of a therapist and I was the patient, and we talked for a long time.

Tony nurtured me and helped me get through this.

It was largely the arrival of the pandemic that accelerated the process.

“With the arrival of the Covid, we all had a lot of time.

And we were all very scared.

I don't think anyone knew in March or April 2020 what life was going to be like, even a year away,” he continued.

“And I think in that sense, I felt like things were going from bad to worse and my teenage years were the thing that I really needed to resolve and untangle.
