Valdemorillo A day in the mountains: haute cuisine among bunkers, caves and the tableware of Alfonso XII
Album The 10 archaeological treasures of Spain that you should know yes or yes
It is celebrated in more than 50 cities around the world throughout the year and now it is Madrid's turn.
We are talking about
Open House
, the largest urban architecture festival on the planet that seeks to bring this type of heritage closer to the inhabitants of metropolises such as Munich,
London, New York, Seoul, Buenos Aires, Sydney or Athens.
To do this, guided tours of its most iconic, newly opened or inaccessible buildings are organized.
Not in vain, a large part of these are usually closed to the public as they are studios, private houses,
public centers or palaces,
but their design is so unique that it is worth discovering them in depth.

EIGHTH EDITION
The date chosen to celebrate the event in the capital is
from September 23 to 25,
although there will already be activities on the 22nd. Then you will be able to enjoy a list of more than a hundred complexes ready to meddle in your entrails, as well as talks ,
exhibitions
, thematic tours and
outdoor routes.
All activities have a common purpose, according to the director of the festival in Madrid, Paloma Gómez Marín: "Allow citizens to experience architecture and the city in a unique way."
And free, since
Open House Worldwide
relies on
Culture Care,
a non-profit entity created in 1992 by the British Victoria Thornton.
What the director of this international network wanted was "to bring architecture closer to the ordinary citizen, not to the professional, so that she would not feel it as something alien".
And
more than two million people
have been doing it since then.
In other words, architecture for non-architects.

NEW MOTTO
The more than 100 complexes are included under the motto
Madrid more open than ever,
since the last edition was marked by the anti-Covid regulations caused by the pandemic.
José Antonio Corrales and Ramón Vázquez Molezún
will be the reference architects.
Both worked together from 1952 on various projects such as the Spanish pavilion at the Universal Expo in Brussels (1958), rebuilt at
the Feria del Campo.
Also noteworthy is the aforementioned Huarte house, erected around a characteristic patio, schools such as the
Miraflores Residence
and the
Bankunión building,
on Paseo de la Castellana.
Part of his legacy will be present in this new Open House Madrid through the route called
Corrales and Molezun.
