A real deluge.

After a scorching summer marked by drought, central Italy was hit overnight from Thursday to Friday by violent weather, flooding streets and homes.

At least seven people were killed in this extreme climatic event reminiscent of the floods in Pakistan, said civil protection.

“According to the local prefecture, we have a provisional toll of seven dead.

The seventh body has just been found,” said the spokesperson for Fabrizio Curcio, head of Italian civil protection, confirming information from the Italian media.

Three other people are also missing, including a six-year-old child who was with his mother in the car.

The latter was saved by the firefighters but the force of the current of the water took away her child, according to the agency AGI.

The most affected region is the province of Ancona, a port on the Adriatic Sea, but bad weather has also hit the neighboring region, Umbria.

In the province of Ancona, many areas have been without electricity and without telephone lines and schools will be closed on Friday in the most affected localities.

According to the Corriere della Sera, about 400 mm of rain fell Thursday evening in two hours, an amount that normally falls in six months in this area.
