It is "the driest year ever observed", writes on its Météo-France Twitter account.

A new sad record for the Alpes-Maritimes which has accumulated them since January.

The sunniest month, the hottest months, or the number of consecutive tropical nights.

📊 The 2021-2022 hydrological year (September 2021 to August 2022) is the driest ever observed in the #AlpesMaritimes with an average aggregate total of 620 mm (667 mm in 1989/1990) pic.twitter.com/o2bZowSoEd

For a year, only 620 mm of precipitation has fallen in the department, as indicated by data shared by Météo-France.

Compared to normal, 56% less rainfall was recorded in the department.

The previous record dates from 1989-1990 with a cumulative 667 mm.

This historic drought could increase the risk of flooding during Mediterranean episodes this fall.

The soils being very dry hardly absorb the rains.

State prevention campaigns were then launched at the end of August in the departments around the Mediterranean.
