Groups such as the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research have announced the results of research that walking while holding a crying baby is effective in putting a crying baby to sleep.

In addition, it has been found that it is difficult to wake up if you hold it for more than 5 minutes after sleeping and then put it to bed, and the research group says, ``I want to find more ways to support childcare with science.''

This was announced by a research group led by Kumi Kuroda, team leader of RIKEN, in the journal Current Biology.

In the group, 21 pairs of babies aged 7 months or younger and their mothers were asked to perform four different actions: walking while holding them, sitting while holding them, moving them in a stroller, and laying them on a bed. effects on crying and sleeping.

As a result, we found that two actions, ▽holding and walking, and ▽moving in a stroller, were effective in making a crying baby stop crying.

Walking with your arms is also effective in lulling a crying baby to sleep, and in 11 pairs of parents who performed this action for 5 minutes, all babies stopped crying and about half fell asleep.

In addition, sleeping babies can wake up when put to bed, but it was found that after the baby fell asleep, holding the baby for 5 to 8 minutes before putting it to bed made it harder to wake up. .

Kuroda, the team leader, said, ``Parents sometimes struggle with childcare because there is no clear way to deal with 'night crying,' but by analyzing a lot of data, we will be able to understand babies better. We want to find more ways to help."
