McDonald's hiring retirees sparks heated debate

Can the hourly wage of 17.8 yuan attract silver-haired people to re-employ?

Recently, a lot of news about China's entry into an aging society has been on the hot search, among which the topic of McDonald's recruiting retirees has attracted much attention.

According to reports, the specific requirements for McDonald's recruitment are: retirees females over 50 years old and males over 60 years old, flexible working system.

Work 4 days to 5 days a week, 4 hours to 8 hours a day, the salary is 1,800 yuan to 3,500 yuan per month.

Regarding the return of silver-haired people to the workplace, some netizens sighed that the post-00s generation could no longer compete, and now the post-60s generation cannot compete.

  What is the actual situation?

Our reporter recently visited and learned that many McDonald's restaurants in Beijing have expressed their willingness to recruit healthy retired employees, but they hope to be no more than 63 years old. The salary is calculated by hour, and the Beijing area is 17.8 yuan/hour.

The reporter consulted 15 retirees with different income levels in Beijing, 12 of them said that the salary standard was lower than their expectations; 3 people said that they could consider it because the work was not very intensive, and they could work continuously for about 4 hours at a time. Housekeeping is more stable.

17.8 yuan per hour

The reporter recently walked into a McDonald's restaurant on Wangfujing Pedestrian Street in Beijing, and communicated with the restaurant manager on duty by applying for a job for a relative.

The manager said: "Part-time staff are currently welcome but the maximum age is not expected to exceed 60.

Because of the dense flow of passengers and people coming and going, if the employees who are too old are bumped, they can't afford to pay.

For retirees under the age of 60, the manager welcomes them, but must have a retirement certificate or proof of social security in the Beijing area.

He gave the reporter a job application form. In addition to basic personal information, the form also asked for work experience and the contact information of the witness.

After filling out the job application form, the manager asked the candidate to come for a trial job on another day. The trial job lasted 4 hours, with no rest in between, no salary, and a McDonald's set meal.

After passing the trial work, you can work as a part-time employee with an hourly salary of 17.8 yuan and work 4 to 8 hours a day.

The specific work includes cleaning up the table, cleaning the storefront and kitchen hygiene, maintaining order, and after familiar with the routine work in the store, you can learn to fry french fries, heat hamburgers, make drinks, and prepare meals with senior staff.

In a McDonald's restaurant near Beijing's Houcun factory where Internet companies are concentrated, the restaurant manager told reporters: Currently, the store needs part-time and full-time employees, and the starting time is usually 7:00-14:00 or 15:00-21:00 in the morning.

Full-time employees are generally under the age of 44 and retired employees under the age of 63.

Part-time employees without retirement certificates need to have unit insurance.

The hourly salary of part-time employees in this restaurant is also 17.8 yuan per hour, and only relatively stable personnel are recruited for more than half a year. The manager hopes that the candidates live nearby and can work seven or eight hours a day. Every 7 to 7.5 hours, half Hours of rest.

The work mainly includes: cleaning up the lobby, cleaning (including toilets).

No need to wash the dishes as there is a dishwasher, but the table and plates need to be cleaned.

Those who are interested can go directly to the store for an interview before 9:45 every day, wear long black pants, black shoes, and change their shirts into McDonald's work clothes after entering the store.

In the past few days, the reporter visited many McDonald's restaurants in Beijing. The flexible employment system is similar, and the salary is also 17.8 yuan/hour.

The perk that employees can enjoy is half-price purchases of McDonald's meals.

A senior employee told reporters: In some cities, the hourly wage for this job is still lower than 17.8 yuan.

However, this salary is far lower than the expectations of the elderly around the reporter.

In Shucun Park, a retired uncle who practiced Tai Chi told reporters: I saw reports that McDonald's was recruiting retirees, so I went to the nearby McDonald's to ask about it, and I felt that the salary was too low.

He said: "It is 17.8 yuan per hour, which persuades old people like me who want to use their residual heat."

In the owner group of the community where the reporter is located, a retired aunt in her 50s sent a message to help the residents of the community clean and cook. The price was 35 yuan per hour, which was in short supply.

Because looking for hourly workers online or in housekeeping companies, it usually costs 40-50 yuan per hour in Beijing.

Most Popular Teaching Positions

The reporter visited and found that KFC also needs part-time retirees.

In a KFC restaurant on Wangfujing Pedestrian Street, the age requirement for retirees is similar to that of McDonald's, and the hourly wage is slightly higher, 19 yuan/hour. After a certain number of working hours per month (currently the store stipulates 200 working hours), the hourly wage can be increased to 21 yuan/hour.

A full-time employee working in the store told the reporter: She came to Beijing to work from other places. The monthly salary here is more than 3,000 yuan. Food and accommodation are not included.

The security guard on Wangfujing Street told reporters: The security guards are mainly divided into two types of salary. One is to patrol the street for 12 hours a day, and the monthly salary is 5,200 yuan. Money; the other is to work 8 hours a day, with a monthly salary of 3,700 yuan, and also manage food and lodging.

He said: There are often restaurants or restaurants nearby that recruit hourly workers, and the hourly pay can reach 25 yuan to 26 yuan.

The reporter asked a number of restaurants nearby and was told that there is no recruitment demand recently. Interested applicants can leave a phone number and call when there is a vacancy.

A non-local female worker who works part-time at McDonald's next to a university in Beijing told reporters that she works part-time at McDonald's for 4 hours every morning from 7:00 to 11:00, and can get about 1,800 yuan every month except for rest days; she also works nearby. A full-time clerk in a Chinese restaurant, including room and board, completes 220 working hours per month, and can earn more than 3,700 yuan.

In addition to restaurants, the reporter found that many cleaning positions also welcome retired elderly people.

The reporter learned from two communities in Beijing and a famous convention and exhibition center that the cleaning staff should be under the age of 65, be healthy and have insurance.

The monthly salary for cleaning the corridors in the community is 2,200 yuan; for cleaning the park (including garbage sorting and cleaning, etc.) 2,300-2,400 yuan, working 8 hours a day, 4 days off a month.

Retired seniors are re-employed, and teaching positions are the most popular. According to the teacher’s level and the subjects taught, the average hourly salary ranges from 100 yuan to 1,500 yuan. High school mathematics and physics teachers are the most popular. Both supply and demand mainly rely on word-of-mouth in the parent circle. choose.

As long as the teachers are experienced and can teach children well, age does not matter.

Value the candidate's experience

The reporter learned that the recently searched McDonald's advertisement for retirees was posted on the newly launched China Senior Talent Network.

The website is run by the China Association for Aging. When it was launched on August 24, it offered 81 jobs in the Beijing area to retirees.

Among them, after the advertisement of McDonald's recruiting retired employees was reported by the media, the number of visits to the elderly talent network exploded. Soon, the advertisement could no longer open the specific demand page.

Soon, the site will be quietly taken down.

The reporter interviewed the operator of the website, the relevant person in charge of the Senior Talents Information Center of the China Association for Aging. What is more important is to actively respond to the aging society and establish a positive outlook on aging.

The reporter opened the China Senior Talent Network again on September 7. A total of 43 job advertisements were posted on it. Among them, the positions in Beijing include teachers of elderly musical instruments, painting, opera, photography, body and etiquette, and handicrafts. All are online part-time jobs. , you can take an online live class once a week; in addition, there are head nurses, family caregivers, course consultants or admissions teachers, and pension consultants in elderly care institutions.

The highest salary is the head nurse, 8,000 yuan to 20,000 yuan.

In Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Shenyang and other cities on the website, there are other positions such as network operation, real estate consultant, finance and so on for retirees.

The reporter searched multiple recruitment websites and saw that teachers, doctors, accountants and other positions support the reemployment of retirees, requiring applicants to have corresponding job skills certificates and working experience, and value the experience of job seekers; in addition, property, security, housekeeping and other service industries , retirees are also welcome, but paid less than regular employees.

Many developed countries have already entered an aging society. In foreign airlines such as Lufthansa, elderly service staff with gray hair are often seen as flight attendants.

In view of the difficulty in recruiting workers in many factories and in the service industry, some scholars have proposed: For some jobs that do not require complex technology and do not require strong physical strength, they are not favored by young people due to their low growth potential. Why not re-employ some elderly people? Staff?

"Flexible working hours" can help companies reduce labor costs.

Coping with the task of aging

On September 7, Li Bin, deputy director of the National Health Commission, announced at a press conference on "China's Ten Years": In the past ten years, my country's average life expectancy has increased from 74.8 years to 78.2 years, which is a historic jump. Health indicators are at the forefront of middle- and high-income countries.

The seventh national census shows that my country has a population of 264 million people aged 60 and above.

At present, my country has entered an aging society, and healthy aging and the development and utilization of human resources for the elderly have become new hot topics.

It is understood that the current human resources for the elderly mainly include: those with skills who "retire and never stop"; the elderly with low income and only general skills or physical fitness, working part-time to subsidize the family; using savings or connections to start a business.

In addition, many elderly people turn to volunteer services, family care and other matters.

Zhao Yue, a specially invited expert from the China-Europe Social Security and Pension Finance Research Institute, believes that the relationship between the re-employed elderly and the employer is usually defined as a labor relationship, and it is difficult to establish a formal and standardized labor contract. The rights and responsibilities in terms of liability accidents are not clear enough, which increases the risks for both the elderly and employers.

For employers and organizers of public welfare activities, there is also a lack of incentive policies and supporting detailed measures for hiring and recruiting elderly people.

Solving these problems is an important prerequisite for ensuring the reemployment of the elderly.

"There are old people in every family, and everyone will get old. Actively responding to the aging of the population is related to the overall development of the country and the well-being of hundreds of millions of people." Wang Haidong, director of the Department of Aging Health of the National Health Commission, said: my country has a large population of elderly and The speed of the aging process is fast, and the urban-rural and regional differences in aging are large, and the task of coping with population aging is heavy.

Especially during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, my country will enter from mild aging to moderate aging, which is an important window period.
