To preserve the heritage of the fathers and grandfathers, the people of the Dibba Al-Hisn region used to participate annually in the Al-Maleh and Fishing Festival.

Mohammed Al-Dhahouri, who has been working in fishing for more than 45 years, said that he "used to participate in the Al-Maleh Festival in all its seasons, to pass on his experience to new generations, to know the profession of their fathers and grandfathers and the reasons for their attachment to the sea."

He added, "I gained great experience in the salt industry, after I accompanied my father when I was 12 years old. At the beginning of my entry into the sea, I learned from him many qualities, such as patience and endurance of hardships to reach a living."

Al-Dhahouri continued: "I was able to teach my sons how to make salt, so that they know how their ancestors lived in the past, and how hard-to-reach livelihood was, and that the abundance of many fish needs a way to preserve them."

He continued: “The methods of salting fish still preserve their character until the present time, and the salt industry needs to be learned in a good way by an experienced, so that the fish does not lose its good taste for a long time, or be damaged.” Al-Dhahouri explained: “We choose the best types of fish, then cut Its head, tail and fins are washed and its abdomen is cleaned, then we make a long incision in its abdomen and the bones are removed, after which large quantities of coarse natural sea salt are placed, and then they are stored by placing the pieces inside pottery jars.

He added: "The preparation of salty dishes varies, some of which are cooked in the form of biryani, and others are salty saloon, in addition to serving them alongside white rice, and the ways to season them vary, either with lemon, onions or peppers."
