China News Service, Chongqing, September 10th: Forensic Science Teacher Wang Yong: Fighting with death, the meaning of teaching students

China News Service reporter Liu Xianglin

"What are the signs of internal organs after death by mechanical suffocation?" "Which classmate knows how the round wound on the deceased's head is caused?" "What shape of wound will a dagger pierce vertically into the human body?"...Chongqing police In the classroom of the Department of Criminal Science and Technology of the college, there is a forensic science class.

The students stared at the big screen showing the autopsy photos of the real case. There were also human skull models, wooden sticks, daggers, kitchen knives, hammers, etc. on the desks in the first row.

Wang Yong paced back and forth on the podium, gesturing the skull model for a while, then picking up a hammer and a dagger to explain one by one, throwing questions to the students from time to time.

Wang Yong is the director of the Legalization Teaching and Research Section of the Criminal Science and Technology Department of Chongqing Police College and a forensic science teacher.

Before, he was the skilled "Wang Yidao" in the forensic field. Now, he is the "mysterious man" in the campus legend and the responsible and reliable "Brother Yong" in the hearts of students.

The role changes, but the original intention remains the same.

Over the years, he has wandered between life and death, like a ferryman on the Styx, fighting with death and teaching the meaning of life.

The "mysterious man" on the school rooftop

"The moon is dark and the wind is high, and a mysterious shadow appeared on the roof of the school, holding an electric drill in his hand, carefully sculpting human bones..." In the police academy, every freshman entering the campus has heard such a legend, this "mysterious" "People" is Wang Yong.

In the legend, Wang Yong was covered with a layer of mystery. Because of this, when many students took Wang Yong's class for the first time, they would feel his strong contrast - Wang Yong is not tall, wears glasses, and is gentle and loving laugh.

As new students grow old, Wang Yong's veil is gradually lifted - the purpose of carving human bones is to drill holes in bones and make human skeletons for teaching specimens.

In 2012, Wang Yong came to Chongqing Police College and started teaching the course "Forensic Science".

As a course pioneer, Wang Yong frowned at the empty specimen room.

The most urgent task is to find specimens for the students to use in class, which is not difficult for Wang Yong.

In 2001, Wang Yong graduated from Shanxi Medical University in anatomy and taught at the school for five years before joining the Forensic Department of the Technical Division of the Chongqing Criminal Investigation Corps.

Homemade specimens are familiar to him.

Wang Yong contacted the district and county public security bureaus to collect forensic medicine teaching specimens, personally made 3 human skeletons for teaching specimens, and collected 6 human skulls, which greatly enriched the content of forensic medicine classroom teaching, and thus won the title of "Rooftop Mystery Man".

"The police academy is not a professional medical university, and it lacks an anatomy laboratory. You can make teaching aids yourself, but a laboratory cannot be built overnight." Wang Yong was in trouble for a while.

One afternoon, Wang Yong was looking out the window and thinking, when the Chongqing Medical College on the opposite side appeared in front of him.

"Borrow one if you don't have an anatomy laboratory!" So, under the leadership of the college, Wang Yong made an agreement with Chongqing Medical College: use his personal rest time to teach the school's students free of charge, in exchange for the free use of autopsy by the police academy students laboratory opportunities.

At present, the cooperative anatomy laboratory has provided 60 hours of teaching venues and specimens for the experimental training of students from the Criminal Division and the Investigation Department of Chongqing Police College.

Responsible for the reliable "Brother Yong"

"Brother Yong, I went to a murder scene during my internship!" "Brother Yong, today's class is so interesting!"... During the conversation with Wang Yong, students passing by would stop to say hello to Wang Yong.

"We all call Mr. Wang 'Brother Yong' in private." Zhou Yingruijia, a third-year student majoring in economic crime investigation at Chongqing Police College, said that although Wang Yong is usually very serious in class, his classmates still like him very much, "because 'Yong' Brother' is very responsible."

In Chongqing Police College, "Forensic Science" is a general education course, only one semester, but Wang Yong never intended to be a teacher who "leaves after class".

There are many teaching videos stored in Wang Yong's computer, which are all recorded by him.

"I have to take several classes every semester and record the class. I usually have to read it several times. If there is something wrong in this class, I can correct it in time in the next class." This habit, from his teaching It has persisted since the beginning.

There was a student in the 2017 class who was naughty and not serious in class, which broke Wang Yong's heart. Two years after the class, when the senior year assigned a dissertation tutor, he specially assigned this student to his own name.

"I want to stare at him. If I don't stare at him, I'm definitely not serious. What if I can't graduate!" Wang Yong said.

Walking into Wang Yong's office, a photo wall came into view.

There are photos of him and all the students he has taught in the photo. What is the name of each student and which position he went to after graduation, he is familiar with all the information.

He believes that education must be inherited and accumulated, and this wall carries the memories of the students. "Seeing the children take up public security posts from here and show their youth in their respective fields is the highlight of my teaching career."

In 2019, the "Forensic Science "Course Ideological and Political" Teaching Reform and Practical Exploration" undertaken by him was approved as a Chongqing Education and Teaching Reform Research Project.

In 2021, Wang Yong was awarded the title of "National Excellent Public Security Teacher" by the Ministry of Public Security.

The ferryman who discerns "life and death"

On Wang Yong's photo wall, there are several photos that are somewhat different.

In the photo, Wang Yong is wearing a white coat and holding a lancet. In front of him, there are corrupt corpses.

Whenever he sees these, Wang Yong can withdraw from his identity as a teacher and return to those turbulent days.

In 2010, a criminal case occurred in a district and county in Chongqing.

A couple quarreled. During the dispute, the wife stabbed her husband in the chest with scissors. Two days later, the husband stopped breathing due to excessive blood loss.

The forensic doctor of the district and county public security bureau went to the autopsy, but couldn't find the blood loss site after several visits, so he sent the autopsy photos to Wang Yong for help.

"The blood vessels are elastic. How about you peel off the muscles under the organs to take a look?" Under the guidance of Wang Yong, the forensic doctor finally found the broken artery in the peeled muscle, and successfully found the cause of death, hence Wang Yong's name "Wang Yidao".

There are countless similar examples...Extreme, curious, and cruel cases occasionally occur, and behind them are often embarrassing stories of human nature.

Exploration, search, search, inspection, autopsy... Wang Yong had spent countless late nights talking with the deceased in various states, and finally wrote down the cause of death in the death appraisal report.

After seeing countless lives and deaths, Wang Yong gradually got used to letting go of his emotions when facing extreme cases and respecting every soul that has passed away.

"Being a forensic doctor, the most important thing is to be open-minded, to be used to seeing life and death, and then to better understand the meaning of life." Wang Yong said.

Now that the role has changed from a forensic doctor to a teacher, Wang Yong still insists on passing on his insights to the students.

In recent years, when the grassroots public security bureau needs autopsy, it sometimes asks Wang Yong for help. He is never afraid of trouble and hard work. When students face this kind of scene for the first time, they will not be able to bear the visual impact and will have a psychological shadow.

"You must always remember that you are here to help the deceased to redress the injustice. The forensic doctor's work has only one goal, which is to find the truth."

Nowadays, after Wang Yong's students take up their jobs, few of them are unsuited to the crime scene. Compared with the fear of facing the dead body, they may be more afraid of not being able to tell the truth about the deceased.

The origin of this lesson is Wang Yong.

In Wang Yong's office, there is a copy of "Being and Time" by Martin Heidegger.

One of the words was popularized by Wang Yong: "When you are infinitely close to death, you can deeply appreciate the meaning of life." (End)
