Faced with the shortage of doctors, the Department of Vaucluse has set up an unprecedented Health Plan.

As its president, Dominique Santoni, explained on the set of 6-9 France Bleu Vaucluse on Wednesday, it plans to hire eight general practitioners by the end of the year.

Following a call launched in March, the county council received a dozen applications which it is currently studying.

The first practitioner should be installed in Avignon intramuros in the coming months.

For the others, the Department is working with the regional health agency (ARS) to identify the most desertified areas.

It could be Valréas, Haut Vaucluse, Cadenet, and perhaps Apt.

Moving up a gear in 2023

These doctors will work in the Departmental Solidarity Spaces (EDeS), in premises made available by the municipalities, and possibly within hospitals.

In order to "devote themselves exclusively to the patient and not to be drowned in all that is the administrative side", they will be paid directly by the community.

The cost of this operation is estimated between 800,000 and 1 million euros and should be offset by aid and funding from the Health Insurance.

The Department plans to move up a gear in 2023, with the recruitment of other general practitioners, but also specialists.
