Last month, an eruption warning was announced for the surrounding waters of the Ogasawara Islands' submarine volcano Kaitoku Seamount, and the Japan Meteorological Agency has called for vigilance to ships sailing in the vicinity, saying, ``There is a possibility that submarine eruptions will occur in the future.''

On the other hand, the Japan Meteorological Agency explained that ``we do not have data to show that there is a direct connection'' to the increased activity at multiple volcanoes in the Ogasawara Islands.

The Japan Meteorological Agency announced the activity status of active volcanoes nationwide last month and points to be wary of.

Kaitoku Seamount Continuing to confirm discoloration of the sea surface

In the vicinity of Kaitoku Seamount, a submarine volcano in the Ogasawara Islands, it was confirmed that the sea surface was discolored from the 18th to the 23rd of last month, and the Japan Meteorological Agency issued an eruption warning for the surrounding sea area.

After that, on the 28th of last month, it was confirmed that the sea surface had turned white over a diameter of 200 meters.

Since August 2001, no eruptions or discoloration of the sea surface have been confirmed at Kaitoku Seamount, so the Japan Meteorological Agency says that such discoloration "indicates increased volcanic activity."

The Japan Meteorological Agency said that submarine eruptions may continue to occur in the future, and is calling for vigilance to ships navigating nearby waters, and that if an eruption occurs, be careful of floating objects such as pumice.

Pumice washed ashore on Iwo Jima

Since mid-July, small-scale eruptions have been seen almost every day on Iwo Jima in the Ogasawara Islands several kilometers from the island. It was confirmed that pumice that was thought to have spouted out in the eruption was washed ashore.

On Iwo Jima, crustal movements indicating that the entire island is uplifting have been observed, and small eruptions have occasionally occurred. I am calling you to

Ogasawara Islands Increased activity at multiple volcanoes

In the Ogasawara Islands, a large-scale eruption accompanied by a large amount of pumice eruption occurred last August at the submarine volcano "Fukutoku Okanoba", and frequent eruptions occurred at the uninhabited island "Nishinoshima". Several active volcanoes are active.

Regarding this situation, Masamichi Nakamura, a volcanic activity evaluation and analysis officer in the Japan Meteorological Agency's volcano monitoring division, said, ``The volcanoes are far apart, and we don't have data to show that they are directly related.'' Since it is a volcano, I would like you to recognize once again that eruptions can occur in the future."
