What looks like a small hole in the wall is where Hamdallah Abdel Hafez spent his life among thousands of books, and now he makes them available to the reading lovers of his village to borrow them for free.

Abdel Hafez and his temporary library are among the only outlets available to borrow books for the residents of the small village located in the Dakahlia Governorate in northern Egypt.

You can find volumes and references on topics ranging from Islamic studies to literary works and some educational materials on the Arabic language in the Abdul Hafez Library.

Abdul Hafez, aged 82, said: “I began collecting books more than 50 years ago. These books are literary and Islamic, and various studies in various fields: (interpretation of the Noble Qur’an, explanation of the honorable hadiths and the Arabic language that I love).

This was a field I loved, and until now I keep reading these useful books.”

The Abdul Hafez group includes 15,000 books on various topics.

He not only makes books available for people to read or borrow, but also consults with them on topics and makes recommendations for them.

And about the reason for his love for paper books, he said: “The best friend of all time is the book, because at any time and in any place a person can read with his freedom and comfort, better than a mobile phone and the like.
