With no major movie releases lately, "Spiderman: No Way Home", which premiered in December 2021, was able to return to number one at the North American box office over the weekend. The week that coincided with the Labor Day holiday, the film is directed by John Watts, written by Chris McKenna and Eric Summers, and starring Tom Holland.

Sony re-released the film, with the addition of 11 minutes of new scenes that attracted some comic book fans, bringing the film to $6 million when it was shown in 3,935 theaters over the weekend.

The movie is expected to end its long weekend yesterday with $7.6 million in revenue.

In second place, another movie held out at the box office 15 weeks after its release, "Top Gun: Maverick."

The movie, starring Tom Cruise, grossed $5.5 million between Friday and Sunday.

In general, the two films' superiority highlights the bleakness of the scene at the box office, given that the two films are widely available to watch on home entertainment services.

With its re-release, "Spiderman: No Way Home" cemented its position as the third highest-grossing movie in domestic box office history.
