Chinese scholars have discovered, analyzed and confirmed the earliest known remains of synthetic lead-white cosmetics in the remains of a micro-copper container unearthed in a noble cemetery in the early Spring and Autumn Period in Shaanxi Province, indicating that the ancient Chinese used synthetic lead in the early Spring and Autumn Period. White makeup has become commonplace, and its age is nearly 300 years earlier than that of Europe and the Mediterranean region.

This important research paper, which reflects the details of the quality of life of the ancients, was jointly completed by the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology (Department of Archaeology, National University of Science and Technology), University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology. On the evening of September 3, Beijing time, the internationally renowned The Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences, a professional humanities and social science journal under the academic publishing organization Springer Nature, was published online.

On the afternoon of September 2, the first author of the paper, Dr. Han Bin, the special research assistant of UCAS, and the corresponding author of the paper, Professor Yang Yimin, director of the Department of Archaeology of UCAS, accepted an exclusive interview with a reporter from China News Agency in Beijing to explain the latest research results of the cooperative team.
