He was actively wanted in France for an attempted murder of two gendarmes at the end of August, after having fled a control in his dog breeding in Creuse.
Robert Hendy-Freegard was arrested in Belgium on Friday, federal police said.
This crook, already convicted in Great Britain, was arrested by the Belgian police shortly before 5 p.m. in Grand-Bigard, near Brussels, on the E40 motorway (which connects the Belgian capital to the coast), told AFP a spokesperson for the federal police, confirming information from the French channel BFMTV.
He must appear on Saturday before an investigating judge responsible for executing the European arrest warrant issued against him, she said.
