Recently, some New York City lawmakers proposed a motion to replace traditional horse-drawn carriages with electric sightseeing cars by June 2024.

This means that the traditional horse-drawn carriage, a street "spectacle" that has lasted for more than 150 years, may come to an end.

Animal rights groups support the practice, arguing that it would be cruel and inappropriate for horses to "work" on the street.

The local coachman countered that the horses were all cared for and said each horse had at least five weeks of vacation a year.
