His heart stopped 138 times … the “Apple” smart watch saved a British man’s life

A British man credits the Apple Watch with saving his life after discovering that his heart stopped nearly 138 times in 48 hours, according to the New York Post.

David Lust received the watch as a gift from his wife on his birthday F.

After putting the watch on, he saw that his resting heart rate was below 30 beats per minute on nearly 3,000 separate occasions.

At the urging of his wife, the 54-year-old called his doctor about the abnormality and was later referred to a cardiologist.

An MRI and electrocardiogram were performed for 48 hours to monitor the abnormal heart rate.

According to health specialists at the Mayo Clinic, men's heart rate should be between 60 to 100 beats per minute.

“The hospital looked really terrified on the phone... Once I got there, they had a bed ready,” Last said after receiving five urgent calls from the hospital to attend.

He told Last that he had a third-degree heart block.

This means that it is at risk of death related to heart disease.

The man continued: "The pre-operative consultation indicated that my condition was unusual, and they had extensive meetings about what they were going to do...My heart stopped 138 times in 10-second intervals over a 48-hour period."

The man was last operated on last month, and doctors were able to remove the blockage and equip the heart with a pacemaker.

He described feeling "relaxed" and having "a lot of energy".

"My wife constantly says she saved my life, and she's not wrong," he added.

"If you hadn't bought me an Apple Watch for my birthday, I probably wouldn't be here right now," Last said.

I will forever be grateful to her...I always keep the watch with me.”
