It is a cetacean is enormous, “with a length of 15/20 meters”.

This whale was found stranded Friday afternoon on the island of Sein, off the coast of Finistère, according to the maritime prefecture of the Atlantic.

Around 2:30 p.m., the Regional Operational Center for Surveillance and Rescue (CROSS) Corsen "was informed by an individual of the presence of a cetacean of 15/20 meters stranded" in the south of the island of Sein, indicated the prefecture maritime.

The firefighters went to the scene and the Pelagis observatory specializing in marine mammals as well as the Departmental Directorate of Territories and the Sea (DDTM) were informed.

A fin whale

"The reasons for this stranding are at this stage unknown," said the prefecture on Twitter, with a photo of the stranded cetacean, which could be a fin whale according to a specialist contacted by AFP.

Strandings of cetaceans of this size are relatively rare on the French coasts.

At 2:30 p.m. the #CROSSCorsen was informed by an individual that a cetacean of about fifteen meters was stranded in the south of the island of Sein.

Island firefighters are on scene.

The reasons for this failure are at this stage unknown.
