It is an exceptional project which is currently being held in the Lille conurbation, in the North.

The Electricity Transmission Network (RTE) took advantage of the summer to repaint 41 high voltage electricity pylons.

A fairly rare maintenance operation in urban areas insofar as 90% of the poles are in rural areas.

Since the beginning of July, 526 tonnes of steel have been repainted in the municipalities of Wasquehal, Villeneuve-d'Ascq, Hem, Toufflers, Lys-Lez-Lannoy, Roubaix and Wattrelos.

The work will end on September 16.

Repainted every 10 to 15 years

“Depending on its environment, an electricity pylon is repainted every 10 to 15 years to extend the life of the installation in order to guarantee the security of the electricity transmission network”, specifies RTE, in a press release.

To do this, the painters work up to 60 m in height and in acrobatic conditions and very supervised in terms of safety.

Indeed, these works do not cause any power cuts.
