Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation "Mother of the Emirates", the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in partnership with the Ministry of Defense, the General Women's Union, the United Nations, and the League of Arab States, Abu Dhabi Ports Group, the International Conference on Women, Peace and Security, from the eighth to the 10th of September in Abu Dhabi.

The high-level conference aims to review the achievements and challenges related to Security Council Resolution 1325, which stresses the importance of women's equal participation and full involvement in all efforts to maintain peace and security in conflict areas around the world, and in the post-conflict construction phase.

It also seeks to develop specific procedures to implement the UAE's national action plan, to respond to and activate the decision.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, stressed on this occasion that the UAE’s organization of the International Conference on Women, Peace and Security comes from its belief in the important and pivotal role that women play in all fields, as they are one of the pillars of the development vision that leads societies to prosperity. and relaxation.

He pointed to the UAE's firm commitment to achieving gender equality and enhancing the role of women in society, stressing that women in the UAE have become a prominent title in the course of its national achievements at various levels.

He extended his thanks and appreciation to Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation "Mother of the Emirates", for her essential and pivotal role in supporting women as a key partner in the country's comprehensive development process, and for sponsoring this important conference.

His Highness stressed the important role played by the UAE in supporting the agenda of women, peace and security within the framework of the United Nations, especially in light of its non-permanent membership in the Security Council for the period from 2022-2023.

For his part, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Bawardi, Minister of State for Defense Affairs, said in a statement on the occasion of the conference: “The Ministry of Defense, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, by organizing the United Nations Conference on Women, Peace and Security this year, is seeking to emphasize the importance of the full participation of women. In matters of peace and security as a priority for building a just and comprehensive peace around the world, and through joint cooperation and continuous work during the previous years between the Ministry of Defense, the United Nations Women, the League of Arab States, and the General Women’s Union, we have become more certain that the role of women has become pivotal and essential in Phases of recovery from the effects of conflict, as field experiences since the launch of the program have proven that women are an essential partner in peacekeeping and post-war negotiations.

Al Bawardi added: “The leadership of the UAE, especially Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (Mother of the Emirates), has supported and endorsed this trend, since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in 2018 with the General Women’s Union and United Nations Women We have worked to develop the military capabilities of women and their knowledge of the foundations of peacekeeping, and the Ministry of Defense in the country has supported the training of more than 350 women from various Arab, Asian and African countries at the Khawla Bint Al-Azwar Military School with success, and we will continue to implement these programs, in the belief of the wise leadership in the pivotal and vital role that women play.

In this context, Noura Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the General Women's Union, said, "The conference comes within the framework of the UAE's keenness to strengthen its strategic partnership with UN Women, with the aim of building national, regional and global women's capabilities in the field of women, peace and security, and contributing to creating an enabling environment. For women, and to raise public awareness about gender and peacekeeping, to achieve the desired progress, progress and development, under the support of wise leadership, and the patronage and directives of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak (Mother of the Emirates).

She added, "We are pleased to express our full confidence in the ability of the conference participants to come up with a rich set of outputs and recommendations, to enhance the activation of the influential role of women in building peace around the world."

For her part, Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Director of the United Nations Liaison Office in the Gulf Cooperation Council States, said: “UN Women is firmly committed to engaging women in its work in the field of peace and security, as women have long been doing important work in peace processes. In many crisis areas, however, there is a stark contrast to the trajectory of formal peace negotiations, where women still largely do not play any official role.

She added: “The conference aims, through its various sessions, in which a group of decision-makers and stakeholders from different countries of the world participate, to analyze and evaluate the role of women in the field of peace and security more than two decades after the issuance of Security Council Resolution 1325, as well as to devote the principles of justice and equity. Strengthening the role of women in building peace as an entry point for the advancement of societies experiencing conflict.
