Koji Fukada, director of "LOVE LIFE", which was nominated for the Grand Prize at the "Venice International Film Festival", one of the world's three major film festivals, spoke about the thoughts he put into his work in an interview with NHK. .

At the Venice International Film Festival, which opened on the 1st of Japan time, director Koji Fukada's "LOVE LIFE" was nominated in the competition section for the Golden Lion Award, the highest award.

Regarding the nomination, Director Fukada commented, "I'm very happy because it's a film festival with a long history and has screened many films that I've been longing for. Considering the strength of the film, I think it's a work worthy of being screened here."

In this work, Director Fukada made a setting in which one of the two men surrounding the female protagonist is deaf, and actually appointed a hearing-impaired actor.

Regarding this, Director Fukada said, ``When I thought about how to create a sense of tension in the love triangle, I decided to give only the main character's woman and her ex-husband a common sign language, so that my current husband could not understand what they were saying. I thought that the relationship would become more complicated by creating a situation where there is no relationship," he explained the aim.

He added, "When actually talking to a deaf person, the deaf person looks the other person in the eye and communicates with them, but as we 'hearing people' get used to the other person, we stop looking at their faces when we talk. I noticed that in this work, one of the major elements of the story is to look into the eyes and talk."

Regarding the theme of his work, Fukada said, ``Every time, I have drawn a universal motif for myself. The loneliness we face in our daily lives is something that we suddenly feel even when we are with family, lovers, and friends, so I think it is enough to depict that moment.”

In addition, this work was inspired by the song of the same name by singer Akiko Yano. I want you to feel how much you love the song."
