Five people, including a 73-year-old gang leader, were arrested for smuggling about 3 kg of stimulants from France, equivalent to about 177 million yen at the end of the smuggling price, by international mail.

All five have denied the allegations.

Five people were arrested, including Isao Sanjo (73), a gang leader of the designated gangster Inagawa-kai, who lives in Yokohama.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, in June this year, the five people smuggled approximately 3 kg of stimulants hidden in a cosmetic box from France to Narita Airport by international mail, equivalent to approximately 177 million yen at the end of the smuggling price. He is suspected of violating the law.



A customs official was suspicious that the bottom of the cosmetics box sent as daily necessities was doubled, and found stimulants inside.



The Metropolitan Police Department investigated the address of the destination and found that five people were suspected of being involved in the crime.



In response to the investigation, the five said, "I have no memory of it," and all denied the charges.



Since the spread of the new coronavirus infection, the number of cases of bringing stimulants from overseas as baggage has decreased, but the Metropolitan Police Department has strengthened its vigilance as there have been cases of smuggling them hidden in daily necessities.
