After the diary of first daughter Ashley Biden was stolen, American Aimee Harris and her accomplice Robert Kurlander face up to five years in prison.

According to the Justice Department, the two pleaded guilty Thursday to stealing the records of US President Joe Biden's daughter in Florida two years ago.

Harris and Kurlander also admitted transporting the 41-year-old's diary and other personal belongings across state lines.

According to investigations by the federal attorney's office in New York, Harris and Kurlander brought the diary to Manhattan in the summer of 2020 to sell it to the conservative organization Project Veritas.

The disclosure platform paid Harris, 40, and Kurlander, 58, $40,000.

The two are said to have previously attempted to sell Biden's diary to Republican Donald Trump's campaign managers.

As has become known in recent months, Ashley Biden had left the diary with tax documents, photos and a mobile phone in a house in Delray Beach.

The circumstances of the theft remain controversial.

After initial reports that the house where Ashley Biden kept her diary was a rehabilitation center for ex-drug addicts that the president's daughter had temporarily taken in, it was later said that she was only visiting a friend there.

Harris said she found the diary under a mattress when she moved into the home after Biden.

Before her father was elected president, conservative American media publicized Biden's drug and alcohol escapades from her student days.
