The

oldest

known iron sword in Spain dates from the first Iron Age.

It was located in the Ciudad Real town of Villanueva de la Fuente (Ciudad Real) and has been about to be sold online.

The local council has explained in a press release that this sword, of

great historical relevance

, was in the possession of a resident of Villanueva de la Fuente, who, unaware of this circumstance, decided to put it up for sale online.

This alerted the Civil Guard Heritage Protection Service, which contacted its owner to authenticate the piece and follow the protocol for its correct conservation and custody.

Finally, the sword was deposited in the

Municipal Museum of Ciudad Real

and this Saturday the Villanueva de la Fuente library will host a conference by the professor of the Autonomous University of Madrid Fernando Quesada Sanz on the finding that he himself has investigated on behalf of the Ministry of Culture of Castilla-La Mancha.

Quesada Sanz is one of the country's leading specialists on military history, warfare and ancient Mediterranean weaponry, the city council has stressed.
