  Recently, Shanghai Pudong International Airport Customs seized 300 live ants in a batch of inbound express mail.

The declared product name of the express shipment was "Lego Toys". After unpacking and inspection by the on-site customs officers, it was found that the actual goods were a batch of EP (epoxy resin) tubes with moist cotton in the tubes. Contains 1 live ant, totaling 300.

  According to the identification by the Shanghai Wildlife Identification Center, the above-mentioned batch of ants are barbaric harvester ants in southern Europe. At present, they have been handed over to relevant departments for follow-up disposal.

  It is understood that the barbaric harvester ants are mainly distributed in Morocco, France and southern Europe. There are no wild species in my country. They have the habit of eating and collecting plant seeds and have strong reproductive ability.

In recent years, some domestic players have kept barbaric harvest ants as pets.

  Customs reminder: According to the "List of Animals, Plants and Their Products and Other Quarantine Objects Prohibited from Carrying and Posting in the People's Republic of China", in addition to pet dogs and cats that meet the requirements of the General Administration of Customs Announcement No. 5 of 2019, live animals ( Including all mammals, birds, fish, crustaceans, amphibians, reptiles, insects and other invertebrates, animal genetic material) is prohibited from being carried or sent into the country.
