The city of Evry-Courcouronnes (Essonne) has been testing a smart traffic light system since July 13th.

This is a first developed by the Flaggr company.

It uses artificial intelligence in order to allow the lights to turn green when traffic permits, explains

Le Parisien

.

The goal ?

Reduce the sometimes unnecessary waiting time at red lights and reduce traffic jams.

The initiative also has an ecological vocation because it allows cars to consume less gasoline on a given route.

The intersection of boulevards Decauville and Aguado in Evry-Courcouronnes was thus equipped during the summer with this revolutionary system.

An automatic green light

If the artificial intelligence detects no other user arriving at the intersection, the traffic light automatically turns green.

According to its creators, this new technology allows a drop of more than 30% in waiting times at red lights and a 20% drop in carbon emissions from cars in the city.
