In Plérin (Côtes-d'Armor), 860 laying hens were to be offered free of charge on August 31, in the parking lot of a supermarket.

The operation organized by the Poule pour tous association aimed to save the birds destined for the slaughterhouse.

Avian flu, however, decided otherwise, says

Le Penthièvre

.

Because of the epizootic, the collective was indeed forced to cancel all of its operations in the Brittany region.

The gallinaceans should therefore not be able to be saved and their slaughter should take place soon.

The practice, which affects 50 million laying hens each year, shocks the association, founded in 2017 to put an end to it.

Three or four years of laying

Thomas Dano, spokesperson for Poule pour tous, explained that the free-range chickens that the group wanted to donate are 18 months old.

At this age, the birds are still likely to lay for three or four years.

Each animal could therefore have produced about 1,000 eggs.
