The German manufacturer of the Thermomix Vorwerk warned users of the TM6 model on Tuesday of the risk of burns when cooking at high temperatures.

“In extremely rare cases,” Vorwerk said in a statement that the increased pressure from a measuring cup clogged with food can cause a “sudden and uncontrolled overflow of hot food,” resulting in burns.

Risk above 95°C

The manufacturer of the food processor specifies that this risk is more likely “if the recommended filling level is exceeded”, and if the measuring cup is used on models “of previous generations”.

When cooking above 95°C, Vorwerk recommends using the simmering basket “instead of the TM6 measuring cup, which is firmly attached to the lid”.

Vorwerk specified in the same press release that "the recipes available in guided cooking have already been adapted" and that "an update of the Thermomix TM6 software has been carried out".

Not the first time

A previous model of the robot-cooker was pinned for burn risks by consumer associations and by the Fraud Repression (DGCCRF).

In 2018, the Australian courts fined Vorwerk more than 4 million Australian dollars after dozens of burns caused by leaking liquid or food while cooking on the Thermomix TM31.

This same model had been the subject of a seal replacement campaign in 2014.
