The Democratic Republic of Congo has reported a new case of the deadly Ebola disease - less than six weeks after authorities in the Central African country declared the last Ebola outbreak over.

A 46-year-old woman who had been tested for the Ebola virus died in the city of Beni on August 15, the Health Ministry in Kinshasa said on Monday evening.

In the new case, "hard work is being done" to do justice to the situation, the ministry said.

There are 160 contact persons.

Ebola is a hemorrhagic fever first identified in Central Africa in 1976.

Transmission to humans occurs via bodily fluids.

The main symptoms are fever, vomiting, bleeding and diarrhea.

According to experts, the virus now occurs cyclically in the Democratic Republic of the Congo: from April to June in the Equateur region in the north-west and in the following months in the north-eastern regions of Kivu and Ituri.

The regional office of the World Health Organization (WHO) had already reported on a suspected new Ebola case on Saturday.
