A month after the Fields Medals, considered the “Nobel Prizes in Mathematics”, were awarded to an international audience of researchers (including the Frenchman Hugo Duminil-Copin), another “mathematician” was distinguished: the young Miessan Youemin Ange Roxane indeed received the title of Miss Mathematics 2022 in early August, ahead of nearly 400 candidates.

Organized since 2000 in Côte d'Ivoire, this competition sees young girls from classes from 3rd to 12th grade compete.

The initiative is not insignificant since being reserved for girls, it allows them to emancipate themselves.

Miessan also testifies to the difficulties she encountered before being crowned: "a comrade told me that I did not have the level and that the boys were the best suited to participate in this competition", recalls -she.

"Mathematics is within everyone's reach"

Confident in her abilities, the winner has set herself new and ambitious goals: “I will be able to enter a university that will allow me to pursue a career as a 'data scientist'.

It's a job that combines both computer science and mathematics, a subject that I love”.

And to those who would like to follow his example, Miessan reminds us not to be afraid of math, which is now “within everyone's reach”.
