"Clara Sola" had its world premiere in the Quinzaine des réalisateurs section at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and has since won many awards at international film festivals.

Earlier this year, the film was nominated for a total of nine Guldbaggar awards and was awarded five of the heaviest prizes – for best film, best director, best screenplay, best photography and best sound design.

- We are incredibly proud and happy that Clara Sola gets to represent Sweden this year.

This nomination means a lot for what a Swedish film is and can be.

We are also very happy for the attention and hope that a larger audience can discover the film, say director Nathalie Álvarez Mesén and the film's producer Nima Yousefi in a press release.

"Clara Sola" competes against the Danish contribution Vanskabte land by Hlynur Pálmason, the Finnish "The blind man who didn't want to see Titanic" by Teemu Nikki, the Icelandic "Lamm" by Valdimar Jóhannsson and the Norwegian film "Världens varsta männis" directed by Joachim Trier.

This year's winning film will be announced on 1 November during the Nordic Council of Ministers session taking place in Helsinki.

The winner receives 300,000 Danish kroner (about SEK 420,000) which is shared between the scriptwriter, director and producer.
