According to him, the water temperature in the east of the Black Sea is 25-26 degrees, and in Sochi and Anapa - 28 degrees.

He noted that this is the temperature of equatorial waters, and this is a rarity for Russia.

Vilfand added that the Kaliningrad region also has “a fantastically high water temperature of 24 degrees.”

“This is a sign that there will be a long velvet season, because the active layer of the ocean has warmed up well, and already in September the aquatic environment will give off heat to the atmosphere,” he said.

The forecaster predicts that this year the velvet season will end no earlier than the first decade of October.
