The reporter learned from the Jiangxi Provincial Hydrological Monitoring Center that on August 19, the Xingzi Station, the iconic hydrological station of Poyang Lake, fell below the low dry water level of 10 meters, and Poyang Lake entered the low dry season ahead of schedule.

2022 has become the earliest year for Poyang Lake to enter a low dry season since records began in 1951.

According to statistics, since late June, the rainfall in Jiangxi Province has been 50% lower than that of the same period of the previous year, and 8 hydrological stations have recorded record low water levels.

Since the annual highest water level of 19.43 meters at Poyang Lake Xingzi Station on June 23, the water level of Poyang Lake has dropped rapidly due to the combined effects of continuous high temperature and low rainfall and the lack of water from the Yangtze River.

As of 19:00 on August 19, the water level of Poyang Lake Xingzi Station was 9.87 meters, less than half of the historical high water level of 22.63 meters.

According to statistics from the meteorological department, on August 19, 72 counties (cities, districts) in Jiangxi Province experienced moderate or above meteorological drought, of which 56 counties (cities, districts) experienced severe or above meteorological drought.

Jiangxi Province will continue to maintain high temperature and little rain in the coming week.
