On July 8, a liquefied petroleum gas deflagration accident occurred in a community in Pinggu, causing two injuries.

The preliminary investigation by the Municipal Emergency Management Bureau showed that the cause of the accident was that the parties used unqualified pipe clamps to fix the pressure regulator and hose without permission, resulting in gas leakage and then a deflagration accident.

"Gas leakage or improper operation, including liquefied petroleum gas, may cause accidents."

According to experts, the hoses are old and damaged and fall off, the pressure regulator is improperly connected, the water heater is directly discharged into the room, and the bottle valve is not closed for a long time, which has become the four major causes of the accident.

Among them, hose problems such as aging, damage and falling off account for more than 30%.

'Small fire' leads to big accident

"Qualified pipe hoops should be sourced from regular sources, purchased at regular sales points, and in line with national and industry regulations; secondly, they should be matched with pressure regulators and hoses; finally, remember not to use steel wires and other substitutes for pipe hoops to fix soft Pipe." Bai Yongqiang, a researcher at the Institute of Urban Safety and Environmental Sciences of the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology, introduced that deflagration caused by liquefied gas leakage usually involves violent combustion and explosion, resulting in fires and other accidents.

Such accidents caused by the "small fire" problem have occurred from time to time.

At 8:00 am on February 23 last year, an explosion occurred in a restaurant near Xirongxian Hutong in Xicheng District, and surrounding houses collapsed, killing one person and injuring six others.

After investigation, the accident occurred because the liquefied gas cylinder sent by Zhao, a staff member of the liquefied gas filling station, leaked and disassembled the bottle valve between the gas cylinders by himself.

"The pressure in the liquefied gas cylinder is high and it is in a spray state, causing a large amount of liquefied gas to leak." According to the relevant person in charge of the Municipal Emergency Management Bureau, Zhao also smelled the smell, but he didn't care. With the help of his colleagues, he spent a few minutes to repair it. bottle valve.

Unexpectedly, in just a few minutes, the leaked liquefied gas met the spark generated by the electrical appliance, causing an explosion.

Use special hose and shorter than two meters

What are the main causes of LPG accidents?

Bai Yongqiang introduced that according to the statistical analysis of the liquefied gas accident data publicly reported by the media in 2021, the main reasons for the accident are as follows: hose problems, including aging damage, falling off, and animal bites cause accidents, accounting for 32.2%; improper connection of pressure regulators 14.7%; carbon monoxide poisoning in the direct discharge room of the water heater accounted for 14.1%; the bottle valve was not closed accounted for 5%.

Others include leakage caused by corrosion of stoves, valves, pipelines, etc., and leakage of gas cylinders caused by heating of liquefied petroleum gas cylinders.

Bai Yongqiang explained that the user should use a special hose for liquefied gas, and the length should not be greater than 2 meters.

In addition, hoses should not pass through walls, floors, ceilings, doors, windows, and there should be no tees or joints in between.

In terms of voltage regulators, residential users should not use voltage regulators used by commercial users, nor should they use adjustable voltage regulators.

The stove should be equipped with a flameout protection device, and a strong exhaust gas water heater should be used indoors.

Unqualified gas cylinders should not be used, gas cylinders should not be set underground or semi-underground, gas cylinders should not be heated, and gas cylinders should not be used lying down or upside down.

Two methods of "smell and paint" self-inspection

Prevent accidents from happening every day.

Bai Yongqiang suggested that the management department should strengthen market supervision on the sales of liquefied gas accessories, and publish the list of qualified suppliers and qualified products to facilitate users' selection.

Citizens should first improve their safety awareness and develop good gas habits, such as being supervised when using gas, and opening windows frequently for ventilation in gas-using rooms.

Use regular products, including gas cylinders, stoves, hose clamps, pressure reducing valves, etc.

Finally, the gas-using facilities should be inspected regularly.

Citizens can also self-check whether the liquefied gas leaks.

Like smell.

"The national standard stipulates that gas must have a detectable smell after leakage. This is the most direct method." Bai Yongqiang said, another method is to apply soapy water to joints, valve interfaces, pipelines and other nodes. If continuous bubbles are generated, there must be air leakage there. Close the valve quickly and deal with it in time.

Bai Yongqiang reminded that once a liquefied gas leak is found, open windows for ventilation, but do not open exhaust fans for ventilation; close the valve, do not switch any electrical appliances, do not put on or take off clothes, smoke, use electronic equipment, etc. in the leaked room, and must stay away from the scene after Call the police for help.

Pinggu special inspection gas stoves filed 4 cases

News from this newspaper (reporter Zhang Nan, correspondent Gao Yang) The Pinggu District Market Supervision Bureau recently launched a special supervision and inspection of the quality and safety of gas stoves. 4 cases have been filed and 13 illegal products have been confiscated.

For the main business of gas stoves and accessories, focus on checking whether household gas appliances have "three noes" such as no product name, no factory name, no factory address, etc. At the same time, check whether the gas appliance has obtained compulsory product certification and is marked with the CCC logo and whether it is posted Warning signs, whether there is a flameout protection device, whether the product nameplate is complete, whether the gas hose logo is complete and compliant, etc.

During the inspection, the law enforcement officers instructed the operators to purchase or sell products without certification of conformity, products without product name, factory name, factory address and other signs, and products that should have obtained but have not obtained compulsory product certification.

At present, the Pinggu District Market Supervision Bureau has investigated and punished 4 cases, two of which are commercial gas stoves without warning signs, and the other two are gas hoses with incomplete signs and non-compliance, and gas pressure regulators have output pressure adjustable size problems. At the same time, 13 illegal products were confiscated according to law.
