A former director of the organizing committee and the former chairman of a major menswear company, AOKI Holdings, were arrested in connection with the sponsorship contract for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. A former director asked me if I could become a sponsor for 750 million yen, and I accepted it," he explained to those around him.

After that, AOKI actually paid about 500 million yen based on the contract, so the Special Investigation Department is investigating the details of how the amount was determined.

Haruyuki Takahashi (78), a former director of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committee, received a total of 51 million yen in bribes from three people, including Hironori Aoki (83), former chairman of AOKI Holdings, in connection with the sponsorship contract for the Games. As a result, he was arrested by the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office for suspicion of bribery.

AOKI signed a contract with the Organizing Committee in October 2018 and announced that it had become a tournament sponsor, but the former chairman said, "In January 2017, the year before the contract, the former director received 750 million yen. I was asked if I would like to become a sponsor at the event," he explained to those around him.

The AOKI side accepted this and took it as a de facto decision to become the tournament sponsor.

However, after that, AOKI actually paid about 500 million yen to the organizing committee based on the contract, so the Special Investigation Department is investigating the details of how the amount was determined.

On the other hand, according to people involved, former director Takahashi explained to those around him that ``sponsors will be decided from companies with high sponsorships, so it is unlikely that we will show the amount to AOKI and ask for a sponsor in 2017.'' and denies any involvement in the adjustment of the sponsorship money.
