China News Service, Nanchang, August 19 (Reporter Liu Zhankun) Poyang Lake, China's largest freshwater lake, entered a low-dry season ahead of schedule on the 19th, setting a record for the earliest low-dry season in 71 years.

The reporter learned from the Jiangxi Provincial Hydrological Monitoring Center that day, at 4:00 on the 19th, the water level of the Poyang Lake representative station Xingzi Station retreated to 9.99 meters, which was the lowest water level in the same period since records began in 1951. Poyang Lake entered the low dry season ahead of schedule. After entering the low-water period (below 12 meters), Poyang Lake once again set the record for the earliest low-water period (below 10 meters).

The data shows that due to the combined effect of continuous high temperature and low rainfall and the lack of water from the Yangtze River, the water level of Poyang Lake dropped rapidly. On August 6, it entered the dry season ahead of schedule. At 4:00 on August 19, the water level of Poyang Lake Xingzi Station retreated to 9.99 meters and entered in advance. During the low dry season, it took only 13 days to retreat from 12 meters to 10 meters; since June 23, the water level of Poyang Lake Xingzi Station has dropped by 9.44 meters within 57 days, with an average daily decline of 0.17 meters and a maximum daily decline of 0.33 meters (August 5 day).

The Jiangxi Provincial Hydrological Monitoring Center stated that 2022 will become the earliest year to enter the low-dry season since records began in 1951, 40 days earlier than the original earliest appearance (September 28, 2006), and 105 days earlier than the average appearance time from 1951 to 2002. , 78 days earlier than the average appearance time from 2003 to 2021.

According to the meteorological forecast, in the next week, Jiangxi Province will still be dominated by high temperature and less rain. In addition, the inflow of water from the Yangtze River Basin is normally low, and the water level of Poyang Lake will continue to decline.

The Jiangxi water conservancy department suggested paying attention to the serious impact of the rapid drop in the water level of Poyang Lake on the living and production ecology in the lake area, and doing a good job in the management of water lifting and water conservation and drought resistance.
