There is electricity in the air, no doubt.

On Wednesday, Météo-France recorded no less than 20,000 lightning strikes in France.

It is quite simply the “most lightning day since June 22”, indicates the forecasting organization.

According to France Info, 5,000 impacts affected the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur region alone.

The storms were accompanied by almost torrential rains: in Saint-Sauveur-Camprieu (Gard), 66.3 mm of rain fell in just one hour.

That is, quite simply the double of a usual month of August.

Ditto in Montarnaud, in the Hérault, or in Vidauban, in the Var.

Third element of a summer storm worthy of the name: the wind.

At more than 100 km/h in the Rhône valley, with peaks at 131 km/h in the Loire in Saint-Chamond, 116 km/h in Hyères in the Var and 112 km/h in Ambérieux, in Ain .

In Corsica, around sixty “rescue operations at sea” in progress
