Tributes poured in on Wednesday, August 17, after his family announced the death of Rwandan R&B singer Yvan Buravan.

The young artist died at the age of 27 from cancer in India, where he was receiving treatment.

The young singer-songwriter with three albums had left for India in early August to receive treatment.

"It is with unimaginable sadness that we announce his passing tonight in India where he was being treated for pancreatic cancer," his manager said in a social media post on Wednesday.

"Yvan Buravan was an authentic soul who radiated happiness for everyone around him. He motivated us all to love our country and our culture."

"An artist committed to peace"

Yvan Buravan, whose real name is Burabyo Yvan, was born on April 27, 1995, the last of six siblings.

His first album mixed afro, R'n'B and pop.

He was awarded the RFI Discovery Prize in 2018.

Welcoming his disappearance with "a lot of sadness", the French media paid tribute to him.

"Yvan Buravan sang in Kinyarwanda and English. Driven by his voice and songs that harmoniously blend musicality, melody and gentleness, he was an artist committed to peace, reconciliation and love."

Several programs will be devoted to him at the start of the school year, in particular "Tropical colors" and "Urban legends".

"Buravan's death touches everyone because he really embodied what good energy is. His music was rooted in a jovial energy and his personality stuck to that too", reacted the Rwandan singer Sherry Uwase on Twitter .

Tanzanian rapper AY, who collaborated with Buravan on their remix of the hit single 'Just a dance', said, "I mourn you till I join you. Rest in peace little brother."

The International Organization of La Francophonie also paid tribute to Buravan, "an artist who died so young and whose talent will be remembered".
