A shocking surprise during a TV program about safety in Barcelona
In a strange incident that sparked a wide wave of interaction, a thief was filmed stealing a beachgoer in the Spanish city of Barcelona, during a television interview with a vacationer who was talking about summer fun and safety in the famous Spanish city.
The thief appeared in the background of a news interview for a state-owned news station with a tourist, for the reporter of the "I Love Barcelona" program.
The interview continued without interruption, as a thief in the background bent over to pick up a backpack that was left unattended for seconds.
Despite the incident, the tourist continued to glorify his days off, saying: "The beach is very beautiful, and the water is clean and cold."
As the owner of the stolen bag shouted, "Someone stole my things, has anyone seen him?"
He approaches the camera crew as he walks around and calls out "My bag, my bag," as a bikini-clad woman holding a paddleboard looks at him.
The funny and disturbing video spread at the same time after it was broadcast on the Spanish state-owned TVE channel, as it had previously been filmed on the famous Barcelona beach, Sant Miquel, and spread widely on Monday.
Police later revealed that they had tracked down and identified the suspect.
A Guardia Urbana Police spokesperson said: "Thanks to a video posted on social networks and a victim police report, we have identified and reported the perpetrator of the robbery on Sant Miquel Beach."
He added, "The thief was seen in the footage, taking advantage of the owner's absence to steal a bag that was left for moments and flee the scene of the accident." Barcelona is at the forefront of Spain's cities, and even Europe in cases of theft and pickpocketing.
