Every year, the Chongqing Branch of the National Hybrid Rice Engineering Technology Research Center will plant a rice field art picture with the image of Academician Yuan Longping as the theme to commemorate and pay tribute to Yuan Lao.
This year, the center's scenery combines the image of Academician Yuan Longping, the Chinese space station, the Beijing Winter Olympics and other elements, and uses the color difference of special rice green, yellow, white, red and purple to draw many lifelike patterns in the field.
In order to keep the pattern longer, the center uses improved late-maturing varieties, which are planted about a month later than ordinary varieties.
Shiwan Town, Dazu District, Chongqing has a long history of rice planting, and has 10,000 mu of high-quality and high-yield rice bases.
"Father of Chinese Hybrid Rice" Yuan Longping started his first work station in Dazu District, Chongqing from the end of 1951 to the beginning of 1952.
In July 2021, the Chongqing Branch of the National Hybrid Rice Engineering Technology Research Center was unveiled in Shiwan Town, Dazu District.
The center gathers a multidisciplinary team of experts and is committed to research in space breeding, hybrid rice combination breeding, new variety test demonstrations, and high-yield cultivation of super hybrid rice.
