The new super service is thus a merger between Discovery+ and HBO Max.

But it will be a while before we can see it here in Sweden.

Next summer it will be launched in the US, and the following year in Europe.

Before that, we will, it seems, see another super service - Skyshowtime, a merger between ViacomCBS and Comcast, with titles from, among others, Paramount+, Universal Pictures and Peacock, and which should be available in clickable form in the fall of 2022.

Although it is still some time away, the merger is already affecting us today.

Several productions stopped

Many may have read about how the HBO movie Batgirl ended up in the trash before it had time to premiere - according to some observers for crass tax reasons.

The company's CEO David Zaslav has promised to save three billion dollars - and in addition to Batgirl, he has also stopped local productions in a number of countries, including here in Sweden.

Not only that.

Already finished productions have been removed from HBO Max: series such as Lust, Gösta and Björnstad.

This just over a year after HBO Max was launched, among other things with the ambition to increase the number of Scandinavian productions.

Still a young industry

The new service - which does not yet have a name - is planned to come in two versions: a subscription-based and an advertising-funded one.

So those who can afford to buy themselves free from advertising can do so and those who prefer the cheaper variant can do so.

We see the same trend with Disney+ and Netflix.

The result is likely to be slightly fewer streaming services in a couple of years, but the more ways to pay for them.

The streaming industry is still young and trying its way.

But one thing is clear: when it rumbles away in the USA, we are also affected here at home in Sweden.
