China News Agency, Xiong'an, August 15th: Baiyangdian implements dredging project to reproduce the scenery of "clear water and birds flying"

China News Agency reporter Cui Tao

"Before the treatment, there were about 1,000 fish ponds, lotus ponds, etc. in Baiyangdian, which divided the original open water surface of the lake into pieces, and aquaculture also produced a large amount of polluted sediment, which blocked the flow of water bodies. One of the 'culprits' of the deterioration," said Zhu Xiaolei, engineering director of China Xiong'an Group Ecological Construction Investment Co., Ltd.

In 2017, Zhu Xiaolei came to Xiongan New Area to participate in the management of Baiyangdian Lake. Before that, he worked in the Chinese Academy of Sciences in research work related to the management of the Haihe River Basin.

In Zhu Xiaolei's eyes, the water quality of Baiyang Lake at that time was brown and foamy. Fish ponds and lotus ponds were everywhere in the lake, and the waterway was tortuous and difficult to navigate.

Zhu Xiaolei said that in order to restore and protect Baiyangdian Lake, according to the requirements of the "Baiyangdian Ecological Environment Governance and Protection Plan (2018-2035)", after the establishment of Xiong'an New Area, aquaculture pollution control in Dian District was carried out, and the Dian District was comprehensively cleaned up. All kinds of aquaculture.

According to Zhu Xiaolei, on the basis of comprehensive and meticulous investigation and analysis of sediment and water pollution, the Xiongan New Area adheres to the principle of "scientific, prudent and precise control". dredging, in-situ treatment, natural restoration” and other endogenous pollution control schemes for Baiyangdian sediments.

"The depth of dredging in most areas is controlled within 40 to 50 cm. At the same time, during the implementation of the dredging project, various monitoring equipment such as drones, video surveillance, and online water quality monitors, as well as steel sheet piles and pollution barriers are used. and other enclosure measures to strictly prevent secondary pollution. After dredging, the area will be appropriately replanted with aquatic plants, proliferating and releasing snails and other benthic animals and fish to promote the restoration of the ecosystem." Zhu Xiaolei said.

It is reported that in 2019 and 2020, Xiongan New Area has carried out two phases of ecological dredging pilot projects in Nanliuzhuang, southern Caiputai, and western Qijianfang Township and other areas with poor water quality. The area of 6.6 square kilometers of fish ponds will be treated, 84 kilometers of fish pond embankments will be removed, and 41 square kilometers of open water area in Dian District will be restored.

"After the implementation of these dredging projects, the content of sediment pollutants in the treatment area has been greatly reduced, which has effectively promoted the overall water quality of Baiyangdian to reach the surface water class III standard in 2021, and fully proved that carrying out classified and precise dredging will help restore the original nature of Baiyangdian. Scenery." Zhu Xiaolei said.

At this time, Baiyangdian in Zhu Xiaolei's eyes changed.

"Now our water quality sampling time has been shortened from the previous two days to more than three hours, the waterway is unobstructed, the water quality has become clear to the naked eye, and all kinds of birds have come to settle in Dianli."

Baiyangdian's ecology continues to improve. There are 237 species of wild birds living in Baiyangdian, 31 more than before the establishment of Xiongan New Area. Many rare birds such as blue-headed pochards and water pheasants have settled and brooded in Baiyangdian.

According to reports, in order to consolidate the achievements of Baiyangdian water quality improvement, Xiong'an New Area will organize and carry out the third phase of dredging project in 2021 and 2022, focusing on the treatment of Zaozhuan, Laowangdian, Dujiadian, Xiaobaiyangdian, etc. on the west side of Baiyangdian A total of 12.9 square kilometers of polluted fish ponds and the surrounding polluted waters in the four areas have been removed, and a total of 3.5 million cubic meters of polluted sediment has been removed, and 117 kilometers of embankments have been removed.

Through the implementation of the project, 20 kilometers of new navigation channels have been opened, an area of 50 square kilometers of open water has been added, and the area of Dian District has been restored to more than 200 square kilometers.

"In the future, we will carry out ecological management in the Dian District near the start-up area, focusing on displaying the lake scenery of 'water and birds flying', making Xiongan a modern city where people and nature coexist in harmony." Zhu Xiaolei took out a picture The display map of Baiyangdian pointed to the location of the start-up area of Xiongan New Area.
