The irruption of what was called

new politics

put an end to the imperfect bipartisanship that had characterized our parliamentary system for decades.

And it brought with it a devastating criticism of the two majority formations, PSOE and PP -and others such as CiU or Izquierda Unida-, for their

enormous dependence on the banking entities

with which they contracted debts that were clearly unaffordable.

It became apparent among the citizens that it was a serious democratic anomaly, both the high amount in

the debt, as well as the ease with which they could renegotiate what they owed and even stop paying it, something quite frequent in the savings banks stage.

It was especially scandalous because its boards of directors were dominated by the parties themselves.

Well, it is worth congratulating that these are practices of the past and that the two systemic parties in our country have adopted in recent years a code of good practices that has led them to

a big reduction in your debt

.

Thus, as we publish today, although at present PSOE and PP still owe the banks more than

€38 million

between the two -practically half each game-, they have made a significant effort to clean up the accounts since 2014 when both formations had a debt with financial institutions of more than 92 million euros.

What has happened since 2014 has to do, on the one hand, with the

end of so-called political credits by many of the major banks

, in a new much more rigorous financial policy in full reconfiguration of the banking map in which we find ourselves since the previous economic crisis.

But there is also a new culture of resource management in the leadership of the parties, which they have reached, without a doubt, pushed after so many

corruption scandals

.

In January, without going any further,

Pedro Sanchez

he gave orders to his party not to get into more debt.

And from the socialist leadership, the federations were asked for funds to self-finance the electoral campaigns and in this way, reduce dependence on the banks to a minimum.

The amortization efforts of the two analyzed parties have borne fruit, aware that the banks are turning off the tap.

Taking into account that around 80% of the income of the parties comes from public contributions, they would have to function with the obligation to adjust their expenses to their income and with debt limits that cannot exceed what is considered reasonable in other scopes.
