It was cold: When Christiane Hoffmann used to talk to her father about his escape from his home village in Silesia, he knew about the 550 kilometers he had walked in the winter of 1945 as a nine-year-old after the “Russians” had arrived on the Oder not much more to answer.

“Now I will remember in your place”: 75 years later, Christiane Hoffmann set out again herself: to Rosenthal, which is now called Rózyna, and from there on in the footsteps of her father.

She recorded her experiences, encounters, memories and feelings in the book "Everything we don't remember - On foot on my father's escape route".

On June 30, the journalist, who after years as an editor and correspondent for the FAZ and Spiegel is now deputy spokeswoman for the federal government, was a guest at the Frankfurt LiteraTurm festival with her book.

In an interview with Sandra Kegel, she talks about her hike and says what else she would have liked to ask her father today.

"Everything we don't remember - On foot on my father's escape route" by Christiane Hoffmann was published by Verlag CH Beck, has 279 pages and costs 22 euros.
