Written in 2015 by the man who will become the first writer from sub-Saharan Africa to win the Goncourt Prize, this novel takes place in Kalep, a town in Sumal now controlled by the brutal power of the Islamists.

Two young people are executed for having had a romantic relationship.

Resistance fighters try to oppose this new world order by publishing an underground newspaper.

Adapted for the stage,

was created in Ouagadougou last year, directed by Aristide Tarnagda, director of the Festival Les Récréâtrales.

This piece will be on tour in Europe in 2023.

At 32, Mohamed Mbougar Sarr made a sensational debut in literature by winning the Goncourt Prize for The Most Secret Memory of Men (Éditions Philippe Rey).

However, his first three novels have all been noticed, including the first written at age 24, Terre Ceinte, which won the Ahmadou Kourouma Prize at the Geneva Book Fair.

The eldest of seven siblings, he grew up in Diourbel, east of Dakar, then came to France to attend the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris, where he began a doctorate in literature. .

Mohamed Mbougar Sarr

Author, director and actor, Aristide Tarnagda lives and works in Burkina Faso where he has directed Les Récréâtrales since 2016 and coordinates the Elan laboratory.

His plays and productions are performed in Africa, France, Belgium, Canada, Italy, Germany... In 2017, he won the Grand Prix littéraire d'Afrique francophone.

His texts are published by Lansman editions.

Terre Ceinte is published by Présence Africaine (2014).
