Asahiyama Zoo in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido, has extended its opening hours for a "Nighttime Zoo" where many families and others visit to enjoy the animals that cannot be seen during the day.

Asahiyama Zoo has extended the opening hours until 9:00 pm every year at this time, and the "Night Zoo" has started on the 10th of this month.

On the first day, the hippopotamus, which often stays still during the day, was popular, and visitors cheered every time it opened its mouth to eat.

Timber wolves, who often rest in the shade during the day, were very lively, walking around and howling in their cages.

A 6th grade boy from Aichi Prefecture said, "It was cool to see all the wolves running together. They are more active at night, so it's fun to watch."

A 5th grade boy from Asahikawa said, ``It was cool to see wolves climbing on the rocks and howling.''

"Night Zoo" is held until the 16th of this month.
