After severe flooding in South Korea, the death toll has risen to eleven.

As the government announced, eight people were missing on Thursday.

For two days, torrential rain had flooded the streets and subway stations of the capital, Seoul, where six of the 11 victims died, according to the Interior Ministry.

According to South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeo, it was the heaviest rainfall in the city since weather records began 115 years ago.

Three of those killed died in Gyeonggi province, which surrounds the capital, and two in neighboring Gangwon province, according to the Interior Ministry.

More than 5,300 people have been forced to leave their homes because of the floods, the ministry said.

Prime Minister Han Duck Soo said at a meeting on the relief efforts that most of the emergency repairs have already been completed.
